I decided to start this blog to log my trials, tribulations and triumphs in my pursuit of a more organized home. After working 13 years full time, I was let go from my job at the end of November 2008, and decided it was time to get the house in shape. In almost 15 years of married life, with 2 children (ages 6 and almost 8) we've accumulated a lot of things, and I happen to be a recovering packrat.
So far, I've cleared out things in my youngest daughter's closet, which was the home to our "rag pile" (lots of old t-shirts, sweaters, etc.) which was for events like drain backups or the time DH did not see a water shutoff valve when we took our sink out to put in a granite tile counter top. I felt like she should be able to use her own closet and not have all kinds of stuff in there preventing her from putting her own things in there. I've cleaned out my own closet as well, and taken a bag of things to my favorite thrift shop in Grand Rapids, the New 2 You store. I have yet to take an old bridesmaid dress out of my youngest daughter's closet and donate that to the thrift store, but maybe I'll do that this week. I've been able to get rid of 4 bags of junk mail and old papers and 3 more are on the way to the Paper Gator. Lots of shredding going on...
